EDSA 1 Mass at Baclaran Church, 25 Feb, 2008 3PM

from the Black and White Movement:
Celebrating EDSA

The day before yesterday marked the start of the 4-day celebration of the EDSA 1 Anniversary. It was kicked-off by a wreath-laying ceremony by GMA and FVR at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. But it looks like it started off on the wrong foot.

GMA was piqued by FVR’s speech when he started talking about the “continuing greed, apathy, and corruption”. GMA walked out without delivering her speech.

According to the news (and I’m just trying to recall what was flashed on the TV screen), part of GMA’s speech said, “The world celebrated with us at EDSA 1. The world tolerated us with EDSA 2. But another EDSA revolution will make us a laughingstock of the world.” And then it adds, “it will drive investors away.”

Granted that she is right, then GMA has only herself to blame. The true character of her regime has finally been exposed – it is evil. And the people have every right to denounce her evil ways to the high heavens.

How dare she belittle EDSA 2, especially because she was its main beneficiary. It only shows she never believed in the people’s cause. She only saw an opportunity to seize power. No wonder she found it easy to pardon Erap after only a few weeks of being convicted of plunder.

I feel betrayed and insulted. But rather than losing hope and giving up on people power, it gives me more resolve to be part of the emerging people power, if only to show GMA that it is for real, and that it can once again transform our nation.

I said it before and I will say it again, people power is not about the efforts of a significant few. Rather, it is about the coming together of the insignificant many. Each one of us counts.

This coming Monday, February 25, 2008, 3 PM – you can be counted by joining the Black and White Movement together with Pres. Cory Aquino and Jun Lozada at the Baclaran church as we celebrate the spirit of EDSA 1 through a celebration of Mass.

The truth is our perpetual help. Sa totoo tayo. Now na!

God bless,

  1. The Baclaran Phenomenon is, first and foremost, the incredible number of people who come to the Redemptorist Church in Baclaran every Wednesday to make the Perpetual Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. It is estimated that at least 100,000 devotees come on regular Wednesdays, reaching about 120,000 on the First Wednesday of each month. The biggest turnout of the year is on Ash Wednesday. The crowd for that day simply defies estimate.
